Open Day - 2018

Update from HOS Chairman, Keith Betton

"Two things to note for next year - a date (we've managed to keep it on a Saturday after all) and a new venue.

The date is Saturday 24 March 2018, with doors opening at 1200.

Although we have had some good meetings at Winchester University, the difficulty with parking has got worse in recent years, and so we have decided to try a new venue, just outside Winchester - and it has plenty of room for parking.

It is St Swithun's School, Alresford Rd, Winchester SO21 1HA

We already have three great speakers lined up for you:

Chris Hewson of the BTO will talk about Cuckoos. Chris has been behind all of the recent tracking of Cuckoos to Africa - including our very own satellite-tagged bird, "Selborne".

Sir Charles Burrell, owner of the Knepp Estate will talk about his imaginative "rewilding" project. This fantastic estate is just over the border in West Sussex where he and his team have challenged many traditional concepts of land use.

Ian Newton will give us an overview of all that is currently known about Bird Migration. Author of the Collins New Naturalist "Bird Migration", Ian is considered by many to be the UK's most senior ornithologist - and certainly a gifted communicator.

It promises to be a great day! More details later."
