Sand Martin monitoring
The last complete survey of Sand Martin colonies in Hampshire was carried out in 1999. A total of 26 sites was visited and of these 18 were found to have colonies ranging from 12 to 650 active holes. The total breeding population was 2843 pairs, which compares with a figure of 4763 in 1996.
HOS would like to have regular annual monitoring of all Sand Martin colonies. If you are interested in monitoring a colony near you, then in first instance please contact Keith Betton. (For address details, see the Scientific Committee page.)
